Jenny's Mixed Up Title Challenge

Hello all you excited Simply Obsessed Fans. Jenny here with you to share my monthly challenge for your titles. Whenever I do my titlework I almost never use the same font throughout. I always use at least 2 different ones. The colors are different or the sticker size varies. I like the visual interest mixing it up adds to my layouts. I'd like you to give this a try. The Queen Has Spoken... Jenny's August Kit Reveal

When the big brown truck pulled up to my house and the nice driver slipped that gear into park, I went runnin for the door. I just knew what to expect... my August Queen Bee kit and a big old pile of goodies from the SO store, as well. I love this kit. I love that it is just soo pretty and unexpected. It's not at all a typical color palette. The yellow and grey are just gorgeous and that punch of teal just puts it over the top. I made 2 pages and a card with my goodies. There is still a TON of kit left. The first page includes a photo of my younger daughter playing dress up. I used a piece of diecut Bazzill (from the store)and a MME paper as the base. I fussy cut one of the PP papers. Gotta love those flowers. When I glued them down I only did here and there. I like the movement the unattached edges provide. Beneath the photo I layered a diecut and one of those darling clears.


Next to the photo I layered a diecut with a punched scallop circle (on a popdot), a cork piece (flipped over), and a button with some bakers twine. Love all the dimension here. You can also see here that I distressed the black alpha so that it remains visible on the black cardstock. I think the distressing really works well with these papers.


Here where that unexpected comment comes in. I used photos of my DS on the football field for this next one. Lots of cutting and layering with a bit of stitching thrown in here. Isn't he a little hunk?!?

Next up, a sweet little card to welcome my hubby home from Afganistan TODAY!! Off to watch my hubby fly in on his E-2C Hawkeye and see my children run out on the flightline into his arms. Sure hope this waterproof mascara holds up!

A Layout Challenge for July

Can I get a Holla!?! It's the first day of July!! Can I get a Holla?!? You know what that means, right? Other than my hubby coming home from Afganistan later this month, that ALSO means it's time for a challenge, or two. My challenge for you this month is to create a LAYOUT incorporating a:

SPORTS PHOTO + A LESSON. Here's my example. My son enjoying a high five with his daddy during his first season playing football and a friendly reminder (lesson) from Momma to always remember his love of the game.

Jenny's Hello Sunshine Reveal

Oh my goodness, I know the other girls have said this already, but July's Simply Obsessed kit is fantabulous!!!! The colors are absolute perfection for summer. I just worship that teeny tiny little Maya Road banner Heather included. I made a super cute little banner to use on my personal blog. I broke out the paints on the larger banner triangles and on the tiny stars and hearts. I even added a little Martha Stewart snow glitter before they dried. To finish it up I covered the smaller triangles with the Lily Bee paper and punched circles and yummy YELLOW Thickers from the kit. Like sooo...

This next one is my favorite. It doesn't hurt that my hubby (who is deployed) is center stage, but I just love how easily this page came together. I didn't realize until I was finished that the photos with the handcut paper beneath sort of form a heart. Do you see it?

The red So Sophie paper kind of dictated this next one. Isn't that paper great?!?

Had fun cutting up the Lily Bee's rub-ons for this next one. I cut the yellow sun rub-on from the larger words rub-on. Next, I cut a large circle out of the blue cardstock and layered a photo of Sophia behind it and the words around the opening. And from there, I just went a little circle crazy.

A Little June Color Inspo From Jenny

The first time I opened up the magazine I wondered aloud, "What in the world is this?". I mean why would my mom (bless her sweet heart) send me a subscription to Traditional Home magazine?!? I mean, c'mon, I'm a mostly single (hubby is almost always deployed) mom of five younguns. While I would loove for our home to look like something out of a magazine, but... HA!!! There's just no way. But, as I continued flipping the pages, I slowly began to understand. Mom didn't get it for me as a subtle nudge to start redecorating, it's a great source of scrappy inspiration. The pages are filled with beautifully decorated homes with furnishings to inspire endless embellies. The ads are spectacularly designed. I could lift each one of them. But, I mostly love the color combos it provides me. My Color Challenge is for you to take a gander at this ad from Waverly and make a scrappy layout using the color scheme as inspiration. K?


For this 2-page layout, I used the foreground in the Waverly ad as inspiration for my kraft cardtock base. And the rest of the bright springy, retro-flavored colors of the houses inspired the rest. What do you see? What inspiration can you gather from this fabulous ad? I know I'm going to re-visit this add at a later date to lift the layout design, as well. Jenny's TRUE Man of the House Reveal

Where do you find scrappy inspiration? I found some while scrolling through some handmade goodies over at Etsy. Can you find which of my June layouts was inspired by this little stationary set? You may even find a little inspiration here today as I share my Man of the House projects with you.

Happy Friday Simply Obsessed Fans! As soon as I received my June Man of the House kit, my mind began to churn. I don't get a lot of time to sit down and scrap with my hubby deployed overseas and me being the only caregiver to our 5 kids. So, whenever I can, I think scrapbooking. I tossed around the thought to use this kit to document my current "Man of the House". He's 2 inches shorter than me and 9 years old. But, I figured I do enough pages about P.J., and as hard as it may be emotionally, I thought I should celebrate my hubby Patrick. While he may not be here very often, he is still The Man.

The first two layouts are photos my hubby sent me from the Ike just weeks ago. They recently made a port call in Dubai, and like any good hubby of an avid/rabid scrapbooker would do, he took pictures for me. I love that he gets me. Warts and all.

Lots of layered circles and stars. It was all spurred by that large dot patterened paper. Love it. So many possibilities!

This next one was inspired by the chipboard sheet. The Badda Bings chipboard was my favorite element of the whole kit. I just had to use lots of thoses yummies. So, I created a little border utilizing them and some of the Basic Grey gummies and the Bo Bunny Buttons & Bling with some pieces handcut from one of the other pp's.

For this last one, I chose the photos that represented family. Besides being a wonderful kit to celebrate the men in your life, it also works perfectly to rejoice in your family as a whole. Love this one...

A Make and Take for National Scrapbook Day!

How would you like to make a cute little box flower like this? You know there are 2 things that are all the rage these days in the scrappy industry... banners (love them) and handmade flowers. I discovered these cute little flowers on the Cosmo Cricket blog a few months back. They're super easy to make. If you can close a cardboard box, you can make one of these.

I like to make my flowers with 2 layers. So, I started off with 8 circles, 4 in 2 different sizes. Fold 4 of them in half and crinkle them up for texture.

Now, start layering them. You need to put a small dab of adhesive just right of center and then add the next piece. You will work clockwise around the flower.

The only tricky piece is the last. you need to dab the adhesive on the petal at the same spot, just right of center AND fold the left piece up and dab under there too. You're completing the flower just like you shut a cardboard box, by linking up the sides. Like so...

Once you've done that put a little crease in the top layer, one on each "petal". Then make the next set of cirles into a smaller layer and use a glue dot to adhere to the top of your first flower. Connect them with a brad or a button, you get the picture. Volia!

Now, for my first flower, I simply used punched circles. But, imagine the possibilities. You coul ink the edges of the circles. You could use a scallop punch. You could distress the edges of your circles. The possibilities are endless! For this one I distressed and used a scallop punch...

Pinks & Browns & Bears, Oh My!! by Jenny

Hello all you Simply Obsessed fans. Jenny here with you today to share some of the projects I created with May's Pink Plum kit. I absolutely love playing with scrapbook kits. I love the challenge of creating something with a set pile o stuff. It really pushes me creatively. I also love kits because it makes me play outside of my comfort zone. It gets me to dive into a paper line or company, I may not have worked with before.



Simply Obsessed's May kit does not disappoint. This kit is flippin amazing. The richness of the pinks and browns and oranges is absolutely spectacular. And don't get me started on the B sides of the papers either. Heather actually made her own brads?!? I got the main kit plus the cardstock add-on (had to have the quicksand cardstock) and the ribbon add-on (check out the pink ribbon below) and the chipboard stickers. I know, I know ... greedy, greedy. With that said, I slammed out 3 layouts and still have a TON of goodies left to play with...

Jenny's Thrift Shop Reveal

OMGoodness, I lurve this kit. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it!! But, life got in the way of me playing with it on Saturday when it arrived on my porch.and I couldn't start playing with it. I was finally able to dive into its goodness just yesterday. and, I completed FIVE pages in one day. So, here we are...

I seriously could have cranked out even more if it weren't for these pesky kids who live with me. wink. Hope you got yours!!

Jenny's March Photo Challenge

Alright. Pull up a chair. Lean in. I'm going to tell you something. I like rectangular photos. Yep, I do. And not just fancy rectangular ones, but the sizes that come STRAIGHT out of my photo printer. I don't even crop them. Now, now hold your gasps down. I do use 4 by 3's and 2 by 3's besides my 4 by 6's. You know what? I'm not ashamed to admit it either. I like the clean crisp lines these shapes provide me when I'm gettin my scrap on.

Guess what I did? I made a layout WITHOUT my favorite sizes/shapes. I used squares! You may have seen a peek of this one when I was asking for an extension on one of Ronda's fabulous challenges. So, my challenge for you today is to use square photos on a layout. Please link me up. I'd love to see.

Sorry for the short post. I'm keeping the Twinnies occupied in the backyard while my hubby finishes packing. He deploys today for Afganistan. Prayers are always welcome. Enjoy your Thursday.
